My Top 7 6-Figure Success Secrets

I heard it said recently that breaking your 1st 6 figure year as an entrepreneur is the one hardest things you’ll ever do as a business owner.  That it takes everything you have to get there…and that from there to 1 Million is easy in comparison.

Over the years as I’ve helped many other coaches and entrepreneurs get to 6 figures, a few smart ones have asked me things like:

“What are your biggest secrets for getting to where you are now?  How did you handle X, Y, Z when you were where I am now?”

Those kinds of questions are fun for me to answer.

Getting inside the psychology of your mentors is so critical to up-leveling your results.  From the beginning of my journey as a coach and business owner, I picked the brain of every mentor I had to the furthest degree I could.  And it has served me very well.

With that in mind, I thought it would be helpful to you if I shared what I consider to be the top 7 success secrets that have helped me break the 6 figure mark.

I thought long and hard about these because I could easily share 20 or even 50 if I tried but I wanted to really boil down the top 7 things that have helped me so you could use them to step your game up and supercharge your results this year.

So without further adieu… Here are the top 7 success secrets for building a 6 figure business for coaches and heart based entrepreneurs:

1.     A vision that’s an absolute MUST

It’s not enough to have a vague idea of what you want. You have to make it crystal clear.  But even that is not enough.  You have to perceive that vision as a non-negotiable.  Only when you fully believe that that vision MUST occur, will you become obsessed with turning it into reality.  And that is what we call “a very healthy obsession”.

2.     Surrounding yourself with high level mentors and peers

It’s easy to surround yourself with people of like mind.  That’s called ‘staying in your comfort zone’.  If you want to succeed and reach 6 figure and above, you have to start spending time with bigger players.  When the people around you go from talking about “everyone is struggling” to “making money is easy”, you’ve made the necessary jump.

You’re fishbowl is hard to see out of until you jump to a bigger one.  Once you do, you will raise your standards to a whole new level.  People look up to me but I don’t think about that because there are too many people around me who are crushing it way bigger than I am and this keeps me grounded, hungry and super motivated.

3.     Focusing on possibility versus doubt

Most (if not all) of us are trained from an early age to focus more on the idea that “it’s not possible”, or that “I can’t do it” versus “It’s totally possible and I can”.  Until you acknowledge this mental habit to doubt you can’t see it.  It’s just there, running your mind without you.  You have to become committed to changing those thoughts until your new normal is total faith in self.

4.     Owning your agenda selfishly

I admit it, I’m a recovering people-pleaser.  I have made other people’s agenda’s WAY more important than mine for most of my life.  Luckily for me it I experienced a breaking point with it.  I chose to get selfish because the suffering I was experiencing was taking me (and everyone around me) down.  I realized that MY agenda is the cornerstone of my success.  Others may call you selfish but it’s way more selfish to drain your energy by giving to everyone but yourself.  Because when you are drained, everyone loses.

5.     Confronting life head on

Life is like a wave, you’re either on it, or you’re missing it.  Every day is like this.  Riding a wave means you face the things in your life that you’re afraid of, and missing a wave means you avoided something today you knew you needed to do.  When we avoid enough things, we build up a storage of things we’ve swept under the rug.  This not only drains us but it secretly destroys our dreams.  Stop avoiding life, and face it head on.  It’s the only way.

6.     Conditioning yourself to be at your best in a moments notice

When we take 100% responsibility for our results we have to look at what about us is causing them.  When you break it down it’s simply our emotions.  When it rains out, do you feel low?  When it’s sunny do you feel ‘ready to go’?  Rain and sun are metaphors for anything outside of you that’s controlling your emotions.  You can’t let your emotions be controlled by outside forces.  You must learn to master your mind and emotions and condition yourself to be ‘ready on a dime’ to be on your game.  When you put the time in to build this habit, you quantum leap.

7.     Mastering sales

I used to think sales was beneath me.  That was back when I dreamed that an A and R in the music business would magically find my music and sign me on the spot.  I just wanted to do my art and let the sales people work their magic for me.  Well in case you’re wondering, the dream never came true… I waited and waited and no one ever saved me.  In time I learned how to sell myself.  And I didn’t start out good at it by any stretch.  But I knew that mastering sales would play a huge role in my future so I stuck with it.

Now I not only have a skill that pays the bills, but I know how to communicate with people in a way that inspires them to action.  No matter what you do, if you have a business, you must master sales.  With that skill in place, you never ever again have to worry about money.  You have the ability to create money at will, simply by getting on a phone call.

The 5 Secret Mindsets of High Earning Entrepreneurs

What if you knew the secrets that the highest earning entrepreneurs of all time know. Would you listen? Would you implement them?

The world is filled with lots of entrepreneurs trying to “Make it”. We all want to be happier, make more money and be more fulfilled. But whats the difference between those who actually achieve that and those who only dream about it? Well it comes down 5 things. Do these 5 things and you cannot fail. Take away even 1 of these steps and none of the others will work as they are supposed to.

I’ve studied high earning entrepreneurs for over 20 years and read everything I could find on the subject of personal development. And after searching high and low for the secrets to success I found that its much more simple than most people realize.

Being successful is truly an inside job. What do I mean by that? Well, the results we get are directly related to the state of mind we are in.

How is that so?

Well think of a basketball player. What separates the MJ’s and Kobe’s from the lessor known guys? You might say championships or scoring titles. But that’s the results of something else: state of mind. MJ and Kobe are more focused, more prepared and more present.

That’s why they produce such amazing results.

Entrepreneur Mindset

So how can we control our state of mind to ensure we win big at the game of life? Well it comes down to 5 steps:

1. Take responsibility
2. Ritualize Success
3. Utilize visualization
4. Set Strategic goals
5. Have True Integrity

These are the 5 secret mindsets of high earning entrepreneurs.

Each one builds upon the next and they work as a holistic process. So which ones are you strong in and in which ones are you weak?

How to Make a Quantum Leap in Your Results

I felt compelled to write you today because the feeling I woke up with was so palpable and passion-filled that I knew I needed to share it.

The essence of the feeling was that of the possibility and potential for UNLIMITED SUCCESS and FULFILLMENT that exists in every one of us.

Okay, I can already see you making that face of ‘Here he goes into some positive thinking tirade’, but hold on a moment… I’m going to bring this out of the ‘theory’ realm and into ‘concrete reality’ fast.

As some of you already know, I was on FOX NEWS last week talking about “How to Stay Focused in a Multi-Tasking World”.

Sean on Fox NewsThe experience was exhilarating because every time I break through to an new level of success in my life, it’s like I have to walk through a ring of fire to get to the other side.

There is this fear (of the unknown and of ‘messing up’) AND a ‘no turning back’ mindset that always turns into an explosion of power and energy within me when I complete the experience.

It’s what happened after my first spoken word performance in New York City,  my first concert at the Troubadour when I was in a rock/hip hop band, the first time I got up and did an hour long speech to a large audience as a coach/business trainer, my first webinar, and now my first LIVE TV appearance on the NEWS.

So where am I going with this?  The ONLY WAY I was able to achieve any of these goals was to FEEL THE FEAR AND DO IT ANYWAYS (great book by the way).

As Bob Proctor calls it, I had to break through a “Terror Barrier” to reach the other side of these life changing experiences.

Okay, the comfort zone, the comfort zone.  You’ve heard it a million times.  “You’ve got to get out of your comfort zone”.  There’s nothing ground breaking about that statement.

But HOW MUCH do YOU actually follow what it’s saying?

How uncomfortable are you?

And why is it that we MUST FEEL DISCOMFORT (and it can show up as pain, anger, fright, irritation and many other manifestations) TO GROW BIGGER??

Why exactly is it that we MUST feel those things to create the success we want in life?

Why do they say, “Do something that scares you every day” or “everything you want in life exists right beyond the edge of your comfort zone”??

The reason is this:  IN REALITY WE ARE UNSTOPPABLE.  NOTHING  IS OUT OF OUR REACH (honestly)… but what does stop us is OURSELVES… OUR WORRIES, OUR INSECURITIES, OUR SELF DOUBT, OUR ‘NOT KNOWING HOW’ CONCEPT (which is really fear in disguise), OUR EMOTIONS!

Bottom line:  WE stop OURSELVES from success BECAUSE IT SCARES US.

Make the JumpThat’s the final frontier.  But the break-through is not “OUT THERE”.  It’s “IN HERE”.  Not in ‘outer space’ but ‘Inner Space’.

I used to hate the feelings of discomfort I felt it when I first started my business.  I would pace my office, uncomfortable from head to toe because I knew I had to make calls to create business and I didn’t want to.

But I had an accountability partner and he was going to rip me a new one if I didn’t come through and I used that as a lever to take the necessary actions to grow my business.  Years and years I felt that feeling.  Butterflies lived in my stomach.

But what’s crazy now is that those “little” fears I felt then are so small now it’s funny to me and there are ‘bigger’ fears I have my sights on now.  It’s not “I hope this person doesn’t reject me when I offer my coaching services”, it’s “I hope I can sell out this event”, or “I hope I don’t screw up on National television”.

I could never have gotten to these ‘bigger’ fears without going through the ‘smaller’ ones.

I used to feel like I was done growing.  Not any more.  NOW I LOVE GROWING, AND I WELCOME IT DAILY (THE DISCOMFORT TOO).

What about you?  Are you growing and expanding at the pace you want to?  Are you taking enough risks and feeling the fear and doing it anyways?  Are you “sweating the small stuff” or are you going full out, day in and day out?

Your best life awaits you.  It’s only a matter of declaring your highest vision (what you want most) as truth and walking boldly in the direction of it daily and then allowing yourself to keep walking forward even when your fear levels rise to almost unmanageable levels.

You’ll be ok.  In fact once you get through whatever ring of fire is in front of you, you’ll feel AMAZING.

3 Big Insights from Getting Booked on TV

I am writing to express my excitement over the fact that I have been booked to speak on both local and national TV as an expert.  10 TV producers booked me for 11 spots!  It happened because I participated in a life-altering event called “Celebrity LaunchPad” put on by a friend of mine and media coach to the gurus named Clint Arthur.

Celebrity LaunchpadThe experience was exhilarating to say the least.   Not to mention uncomfortable and Scary!  It really pushed me to higher levels of confidence and energy within myself.

When you are going to be on TV, you have to be sure your message is the one you want to put out there because you only get 1 chance to make a 1st impression and as well, since you only get 4-5 minutes on TV it also has to be succinct and inspirational.

That was a tall order for me when I arrived but something I REALLY owned by the time I got to the end of this event.

Here’s what I learned most from this transformational experience:

1.  You’re never going to be ‘ready’.  My book isn’t done and I wasn’t 100% sure what I wanted to speak about when I got there.  I figured it out with the help of Clint, the other participants and the fact that I HAD TO.  14 TV producers facing you on Skype will force you to figure it out!

2. The more uncomfortable something is, the more power and confidence you feel when you get through it.  It’s like walking on the coals if you’ve ever been to a Tony Robbin’s event.  You feel empowered and unstoppable when you make it to the other side.  Imagine that but for your career!

3. Energy is EVERYTHING when it comes to communication.  Whether it’s a speaking gig, a tele-seminar, a phone call with a loved one, or TV, your energy matters most and it’s what translates your BEST SELF to people.  UPLEVEL YOUR ENERGY IF YOU WANT TO UP LEVEL YOUR RESULTS.

There are many more lessons but I’ll inspire you with more after my first LIVE appearance airs on March 11th for FOX in Las Vegas.

My Accident

Today marks 4 years of FREEDOM from day jobs and answering to bosses.

But before you break out the champagne and cheers me, I have a story to share.

Because before I got free, I had to experience a wake up call that I will never forget.

I had recently moved to Hawaii and I was invited on one of those zodiac boats (the ones which look like a raft with a motor) for a ‘fun little ride’.

The driver of the boat was my neighbor and unbeknownst to me, he was a bit of a show off.

I’ll spare you the play-by-play but basically he pushed that motor to an extreme and the way the boat hit a wave after catching air caused the rubber to tear my left ankle to pieces.

Sean's bad foot
I had to get reconstructive surgery and I was off my feet for 7 months.

I’m a big believer in ‘taking responsibility’ for my results and I intuitively I knew there was a deeper meaning to this experience and that it was not ‘just an accident’.

After doing some soul searching I found it:  I was not following my calling (to help people) and the universe was letting me know I was off course.

With this awareness staring me in the face, I knew exactly what I was supposed to do (I had been considering coaching for years): I took the plunge and enrolled in a coach certification program.

The rest as they say… is history.

I can’t even imagine what my life would be like right now if I hadn’t listened.

So what’s the moral of this story?

Life is leading us to where we’re meant to be.  And when we get off course, we get wake up calls to get us back on.

But we have to listen.

What’s devastating to me is seeing so many people call everything in their life that doesn’t fit into ‘their plans’ an ‘accident’.

There are no accidents.

Just like an acorn, from birth we contain in us the un-manifested potential of our magnificence.

And when we get off course, getting back on is just a question of taking responsibility and listening to our heart.

Anyway, that ‘accident’ lead me to what today is true freedom.

I have a booming business doing what I love, making a difference in people’s lives, working only 3 days a week!!

And for that I am eternally grateful.

If you got value from this, please comment and share your thoughts.

With love,

How To Get a New Client Today

I’ve been in a great place lately with the exciting news of becoming a father and I keep thinking about things I want to share with you.

I often hear from entrepreneurs who are frustrated because they struggle to attract enough clients despite having invested in multiple programs on the latest and greatest marketing ‘secret’.

It pains my heart to hear this when I know how simple the solution really is.

So today I’ve decided to walk you through a 3 step process I’ve used to keep my practice full for 3 years straight.

Now before I get into what that is I want to preface this by saying that you might breeze by these ideas fast and overlook the power of them because they are so simple.

Please don’t do that.

The fact is, many entrepreneurs and others who make a living from selling  often get caught in the trap of trying to ‘will’ their business to success.

They look for the perfect marketing strategy that will allow them to have a steady steam of clients coming to them effortlessly but more often then not it turns out to be a whole lot of work.

Because it’s not sustainable they give up and find themselves back where they started: struggling to get clients.

This brings with it a lot of shame and ‘I’m not good enough’ type of thinking.

I’m not saying marketing strategies don’t work.  Many do and you should continue to learn and master them.

What I am saying is that relying solely on ‘strategies’ alone will never work in the long term because they are based entirely on external ‘outer game’ effort.

The solution to your client attraction problem is not in the outer game at all.

So lets get into the 3 part process:

1.  The first step is that you must believe that you are supported by the universe.

It may feel at times like you are alone in this quest to build your business, but you are not.

Your business (just like yourself) has a greater purpose than just to produce income and support you / your family.

Many entrepreneurs I meet get lost in ‘small business’ thinking.

They might be connected to their own purpose for doing what they do but they don’t see the bigger picture – that their business plays a role beyond them – and that it is an integral part of the great dance of life.

That interconnectedness of all things is not just some esoteric concept from The Ling King.  It’s truth.  And it applies to your business as much as it does to you.

When you ‘remember’ this, you can’t help but feel supported by something greater.

This brings us to step 2 of the process:

2.  Own this mantra: “I’m so happy and grateful now that ideal clients come to me all the time, in increasing quantities from endless sources without strain or stress.”

It’s true.  They do.  And they always will… as long as you keep this mantra by your side and BELIEVE IT.

Repeat it daily and allow it to sink into your subconscious mind.  Then it will become a way of life for you.

And this brings us to the final (and 3rd) step of the process:

3. You must take inspired ‘real world’ action consistently.

It doesn’t really matter what you do.  As long as do something that includes other people, you will attract clients.

I’ve attracted clients at the beach, at the bar, at coffee shops, at the airport, at networking events and on and on it goes.

Of course the best action you could take would be to put yourself into communities of people who fit your ideal client profile.

But don’t get overly hung up on that right now.

Just step outside your bubble… bringing with you part 1 and part 2 of this processs and you will be successful.

Don’t believe me?  Think you need the next whiz bang super duper stealth marketing strategy?

Don’t get caught up in the hype.

Business (and life) are inside games.  Master this part and the outer will always come.

As T. Harv Ecker says in the Secrets of the Millionaire Mind:  “If you want to change the visible, you have to change the invisible first”

Okay, so lets pull it all together:

#1: You believe that you are supported by the universe.

#2: You own the mantra: “I’m so happy and grateful now that ideal clients come to me all the time, in increasing quantities from endless sources without strain or stress”

#3: You take inspired ‘real world’ action consistently

That’s it.  I told you it was simple.

When I started my business 4 years ago I had nothing but the desire to achieve my first coaching goal of 5 clients. I had no sales skills, no niche, no website and no company name.

But I had this process inside of me.

And it has served me so well that I wanted to make sure you had access to it too.

Go out and attract a new client today.  I know you can do it.

If this was helpful to you and you got value (or clients) out of it, I’d love to hear about it.

Send me a shout!

With Love,

The Cause of Failure (and Success) Revealed

I wanted to share a powerful insight with you:

Success is not random.  Success is an exact science.  It’s as sure as 2+2 = 4.

Don’t believe me?  Read on.

Failure vs Success

Most of us (if we live in or were brought up in America) are a by-product of a culture that is disconnected from it’s source (the invisible realm).

Because of this we have a tendency to mistake our current reality (the visible realm) as truth and in doing so use the law of attraction against us by mentally out-picturing more of what we don’t want (more of what already was).

On the flip side, when we picture the life we want to have, we tend to focus on all the positive external results that we’ll receive when we get there:
Abundance of money, a fulfilling career, healthy and loving relationships, optimal and radiant health, and on and on.

But here’s the thing.  The error we’re making when we think of success in terms of external results is that we are mistaking the rewards of success for the state of mind called: ‘success-ful’.

It’s not that you shouldn’t focus on external results (you should, because they produce the vibration of ‘already having them’ in your body which brings them to you) but don’t mistake the fruits for the roots.

Do you see the difference?

Do you ever notice that successful people tend to exude success-full energy?

Do you notice that they have a consistent success-full state of mind that they operate from?  That they aren’t just successful in terms of what they have achieved but also in terms of their being?

In this realization lies the key to ALL success in life – for you, myself and everybody.

In order to ‘achieve’ successful results, we must BE SUCCESS-FUL in our being.

In the famous book “The Science of Getting Rich”  Wallace D. Wattles breaks down the exact science of success and shows us how simple it really is.

To reference chapter 12 “Efficient Action”:

“Every act is, in itself, either effective or inefficient.  Every inefficient act is a failure and if you spend your life in doing inefficient acts, your whole life will be a failure. On the other hand, every efficient act is a success in itself, and if every act of your life is an efficient one, your whole life MUST be a success. The cause of failure is doing too many things in an inefficient manner, and not doing enough things in an efficient manner. If, now, it is possible for you to make each act an efficient one, you see that the getting of riches is reduced to an exact science, like mathematics. The matter turns, then, on the question of whether you can make each separate act a success in itself. And this you can certainly do.”

So there you have it.

Make each moment matter by making it success-full.  Build successful moment on top of successful moment and you create “success momentum”.

If half the time you are successful and the other half you are unsuccessful, your results will mirror that and be half-half.

So tip the scales and be successful more often than not (in your being) and you can’t help but experience successful external results.

And if you want to go for the gold, be success-ful ALL THE TIME and you can’t help but create everything you ever dreamed of and more.

This is not always easy to do because it requires self discipline and a high level of FAITH.

But it’s the road to success so in my humble opinion, those are small sacrifices to me for a lifetime of fulfillment.

I hope this was helpful to you and if so, let me know!

Success is Your Birthright

A lot of people have been commenting lately about the tagline for my company, “Success is your birthright, Create it”

… And they have been asking me “what exactly does that mean?”

It got me thinking about how important it is for me to define it clearly for you because the “gold” contained in that tagline is responsible for ALL the success that I’ve accomplished since starting my business 4+ years ago.

successMaybe you can easily pick up on the idea of “Success is Your Birthright”.  I mean, it’s fairly obvious that I’m saying that “success is our natural state as humans”.

But what exactly does that mean that success is our natural state?

The easiest way to explain is to flip it around by stating the opposite, which is that “failure is not our natural state.”

Failure is a human concept that only exists in our minds (failure only occurs when we ‘fail’ ourselves by giving up or calling ourselves “failures”).   Failure is a concept based on rules that we made up, or someone made up for us, and we follow…most likely unconsciously.

On the other hand, success (which I see as synonymous with “fulfillment”, “abundance” and “wealth”) describes life itself.

Every moment of every day, we are naturally propelled forward (in our thoughts, words and actions) to expand and increase ourselves.

Life is about growth. The pursuit of more. The quest to be more, do more, achieve more, and on and on it goes.

Therefore ‘Success’, which is the state of ‘being (and becoming) more’ IS OUR NATURE.

Now here’s the catch… and also the reason why I say, ‘Create it’:

We are our worst enemies on this quest.

No obstacle or opponent can derail our progress more than our own selves.
(Did you know that external obstacles stop us from our goals less than 10% of the time??)

And when this “shadow self” stands in our way long enough, we fall victim to what appears to be failure. And in that, we fail ourselves.

But we don’t like to see it that way, so instead we make up excuses:

  • “I can’t get enough clients”
  • “I’m not good at marketing”
  • “Business is slow because of the recession”
  • “Nothing good ever happens to me”
  • “No one has any money”
  • “There are no good jobs / opportunities out there”

These excuses are convenient (and socially acceptable) but what really happened was that WE CREATED OUR “FAILURE” and then we refused to take responsibility for it.

When you get caught up in this type of projection, it’s important to catch yourself and remember that your results are ALWAYS created by YOU.

Many entrepreneurs I do free consultations with come to me with the same fundamental error in thinking. They believe something or someone else is causing their results.

It could be past trauma, a dysfunctional upbringing, an illness or ‘handicap’, bad relationships or a rainbow of other “stories” that cause them to believe this.

I understand the power and seeming reality of these limiting beliefs, and I’m not going to make them wrong.

But the ONE QUESTION to ask when analyzing our own beliefs is NOT: “Is this belief right or wrong?”… but rather: “Is this belief empowering or weakening me?”

So let me ask you this: if you question being responsible for the results you create in life:

  • Is that empowering or weakening you?

My guess is that you understand that when you give things ‘outside of you’ the power to control your life, you become a victim… and your life becomes ‘out of control’.

If you feel like things are out of your control right now, then you’ve been living with a limiting belief structure that is affecting your ability to have the life you want.

And who is responsible for that belief structure?  You got it.

Now, before I pull this all together, let me make one qualification of the above statements.

I said that when we allow things “outside” of ourselves to control our results,  we become victims and our lives become ‘out of control’.

This is accurate but it leaves out a crucial component to the process: that life is really a process of co-creation.

In other words it’s 100% up to us but whatever we choose to do, we get 100% support from the ‘the universe’ on that (whether we choose the ‘right’ thing or the ‘wrong’ thing).

This explains the concept of  “providence moves in” as well as the law of attraction.

It also explains why you might have gotten confused at some point about who’s in control of your life.

The problem stems from the fact that we tend to project that the Universe is ‘out there’ but it’s ‘in here’ and it’s not separate from us.

So the bottom line is that each one of us is 100% in control of the results we create in life, period.

So create the very best.

I know it was long, but hopefully it was worthwhile and at the very least now you’ll always know what I mean when I say,

“Success is Your Birthright.  Create it.”

If got value out of this let me know.  I love hearing from you.
